Can't Log In to the Game

If you try to log in and nothing happens, first try to make a new account. If the new account works, that means your old account might be banned. It can be banned by admin for not respecting rules, abusing bugs, abusive language, etc., or PunkBuster. If you are banned by PunkBuster, all your new accounts will be banned, not right away, but in a few hours/days. If you used or tried to use cheats and hacks or abused bugs, and used abusive language then you know that, and there is no reason to ask why in the forum. Play fair and your account will be okay. But, if you make a new account and you can't log in with it, you should delete "version.cfg" from the War Rock directory and start the game again. It should start updating. Also, make sure you disable all your security/antivirus/firewall software since they might block the connection to War Rock. If all else fails, please contact Customer Support with the exact error message you have been receiving. It might also be helpful to search our FAQs and forums for a solution.

Crashes - Packet Loss

If you are getting kicked from the game, this may be due to packet loss. PunkBuster tracks packets and if not enough are being sent, or too many are lost between the game server and players, then PunkBuster will drop you from the game. Packet loss describes an error condition in which data packets appear to be transmitted correctly at one end of a connection, but never arrive at the other. This will occur if:

Network conditions are poor and the packet became damaged in transit.
The packet was deliberately dropped at a router because of internet congestion.
Distances between client to the game server and other players are too great.
So players that are not within at least 1,000 miles of both the game server and other players will end up having more packet losses than those who are closer. Players outside Germany, UK and North America will experience more disconnects and will have to wait until more servers are rolled out before this issue no longer affects them.

Crashes - Splash Screen

Folder Name Longer than 30 Characters

If you are having the Warrock.exe crash at the splash screen, then try the following:

Move the Warrock folder to the root of your C: drive.
Example: C:Warrock
We have found a bug that is caused if the game is installed to a folder that has a name longer than 30+ characters. The same goes if you have installed the game into a subfolder and the total character length of the folder and subfolder exceeds 30 characters.

Error - Account is Currently in Use

This can happen when you have been disconnected from the gaming session and the server lists you as still connected. Please submit a Customer Support Inquiry if the problem persists.

Error - Cannot extract a zip file [Updater.zip]!

You are probably runing Windows Vista. Unfortunately, the game is not compatible with Vista. War Rock is currently playable on Windows ME and XP. Although warrock is not compatible with Vista you can run and play the game in Vista, just right click on the warrock destop exe and choose properties, tick the box that says run as an administrator and the game will work.

Error - Cannot get Version.txt

If you get the “Cannot get version.txt” error then this usually means that the game is being blocked from connecting to the patch\game server. The number one cause of this issue is that any security or anti-virus software that you have installed is not allowing the following War Rock programs access to the internet:
WRLauncher.exe
WRUpdater.exe
Warrock.exe
To fix this you should open your anti-virus or security software and allow these three programs full access to connect to the internet. Most anti-virus and security programs have a way to manually add these to a list of allowed programs and you will have to consult the User Manual for the particular software you have installed in order to figure out how best to add programs to the list.

For users that were having problems patching (not connection issues but just weren’t patching or had a wrong patch version), we used to instruct you to delete version.cfg. This will not work anymore. Now, you will need to either:

Edit version.cfg to sub = 0. This means you will need to drag and drop the version.cfg file into Notepad, change the Sub number to 0, save, and then close Notepad, or...
Un-install and reinstall the full game client, so that it attempts to repatch on a clean slate.

Error - Cannot Launch Child Process (code:193)

The child error is caused by an issue with your Operating System. The error code 193 means that Windows is not detecting the game as a valid win32 process. The error occurs because War Rock and Windows are unable to determine the validity of the operating system. In most cases, installing the latest updates to Windows resolves the issue. We advise you to visit the technical forums to discuss the issue further with your peers.

Error - Invalid URL

You most likely have an older version of War Rock installed. Please uninstall any older version of War Rock that you might have and delete the War Rock directory. Then, download the new client from one of our mirror sites and reinstall the game.

Error - Login Failed

Please attempt to log in to the game again. This error is normally caused by too many users attempting to log in at one time. If the problem persists, please contact Customer Support.

Game Crashes During Play

If you have not had to restart your computer completely due to the crash, and you are primarily experiencing this issue on the larger maps, you may have a driver issue. Your computer may have an updated version of DirectX, but the graphics card driver is not the most recent version. This is a very easy fix and only requires downloading and installing the new driver, and restarting your computer.

Windows Update KB917422

The Windows Update KB917422 is known to cause problems with some programs, so if you are getting errors, try to remove this update. Microsoft knows of this issue and should be providing a new patch for it.
